This is a sharing group to share tools in the West Point Grey area of Vancouver. If you have wood working, metal working, or construction tools; are willing to put some of these tools in the pool; would like access to other tools; and might be interested in joining the tool pool, please send me a message through this site. Tools so far are: circular saw, table saw, electric drill, compound miter saw, polisher/sander, and compressor. The photo is a representative one of various tools, not a photo of the actual tools in the pool.
Wanted for use only twice a year, for a short haul between marina and home, when putting into or taking the sailboat out of winter storage. I would be happy to make a financial contribution in lieu of rent or a work contribution (such as greasing the axles).
The trailer photo shown is of a Highliner trailer and is for representative purposes only. The boat to be carried is a 20' Vivacity with double bilge keels, so a trailer with high side support rails or fore and aft support rails would be ideal. For details of the boat to be transported, please see http://www.sharablethings.com/interests/29.
Live Animal Cage Trap (Havahart Model #1025), a humane way to catch squirrels, weasels, chipmunks, rodents, and other similar-size nuisance animals. Available for rent ($5 a week). And I hope you will record your experiences in using it in the messages section of this sharing interest. The photograph shows the cage loaded, with an apple slice as bait (thanks to a local doctor's prescription). (But note that experienced humane trapper Grims suggests using nuts...and has other good advice in his message.)
I am looking to build a small half pipe and want to split the construction costs and use with anybody who is interested. Ideally, we would build the ramp somewhere in the west side of Vancouver, Kitsilano or West Point Grey.
HAVE AND WANT TO SHARE: Truly Fair, a Vivacity, a 20-foot, 1967/1969, English-built, double-keeled, fiberglass sloop, with yellow topsides, blue accent lines, Seattle gray deck, and white sails. We - the two families who own her -- share other boats and cannot use her as much as we would like but are fond of her and do not want to sell her entirely. We would like one other sharing party to purchase a one-third interest or buy one of our half-interests or two other sharing parties each to buy a one-quarter interest in her.
Truly Fair would be kept in the water at the Burrard Bridge Civic Marina in Vancouver during the summer months (say June-September) and stored on land at the marina or in someone's back yard or at her mooring in Silva Bay on Gabriola Island in the winter.
Theoretically, Truly Fair sleeps four, but two adults and two children would be her very full sleeping complement. She can carry more than four day sailors. She draws 28" and can be beached on her twin bilge keels.
In the summer of 2009, Truly Fair had her bottom painted. She is in working condition but needs deck and topsides painting, new interior cushions, new standing rigging, and a replacement port rubrail. She has a brand-new main sail, new battery, 6 hp outboard engine in good condition, and a lovely natural wood tiller and rudder.
We value Truly Fair at $3,600 and would be willing to sell a one-half interest in her for $1,800; a one-third share in her for $1,200; or two quarter shares in her for $900 each. Total annual ownership costs (moorage, storage, insurance, repairs, replacements, and maintenance), exclusive of depreciation, are approximately $3,000, so, annually, approximately $750 for a quarter share partner, $1,000 for a one-third sharing partner, and $1,500 for a one-half sharing partner. There would be a requirement to do your share of annual personal work, such as scrubbing and painting and making repairs. Therefore, for an initial investment of $900 to $1,800, an annual cost of $750 to $1,500, and some elbow grease you can own part of a small coastal cruiser that you will be able to use probably as much as you have time for.

Our family owns this boat and would like to find someone or a family to share. We have it currently moored at our cabin on Bowen Island in the summer but could move it to a marina in or close to Vancouver. In the Fall, Winter and Spring (about 9 months) we store it on our property under covered shelter. The engine is a 135 horsepower Mercruiser inboard-outboard. There is a cuddy cabin that sleeps two and a head. The boat is in very good condition. Willing to sell a half interest for $10,000. Photo is of a similar (but perhaps slightly smaller) boat.
Our family (dad, mom, boy 20, girl 17) would like to share 1 or 2 double sea kayaks and related gear (lifejackets, roof rack, etc.) with 1-3 other families, for use on extended summer camping trips and locally during the year. Photo is of a sample type (Current Designs) double sea kayak. We don't have any kayaks yet and would be looking to buy new or used kayaks or share with others who already have them.
We are a small, cooperative, non-commercial dojo called Shinjinbukan Vancouver Dojo, founded by Daniel Kogan and under the guidane of Onaga Sensei of Okinawa. Our workout space on West Broadway near Macdonald Street in Vancouver consists of a wooden gym floor area of approximately 30' x 30', lobby area that seats approximately 10, and small administrative/changing room. Washrooms are shared with the adjoining music school. We use the space as a karate dojo from 6-9 pm on M, W, and F evenings, with core attendance expected from 7-9 on as many of these evenings a week as you can make it. Currently all but one of our members are black belts. It is an ideal learning environment for those interested in karate as a way of health, body control, self-discipline, and long-term but not necessarily onerous commitment. We are not a dojo involved in sports karate or sparring.
This sharing interest is posted by the most junior member of the dojo in terms of accomplishment, out of gratitude for what the dojo has given him but without the sanction (which will be sought) of Daniel Kogan Sensei or the leadership of the Vancouver dojo. It is expected that this sharing interest may be removed or edited on their review and until then should be seen only as one person's expression of hope that others will find the dojo and wish to participate in its life.
The photograph is not of a member of the dojo. It is borrowed from Wikipedia. It depicts a famous karate practitioner taking one of the classical stances of karate. Similar forms are taught at Shinjinbukan Vancouver Dojo.
