Personal Information Protection Policy (“Privacy Policy”)

This Privacy Policy applies to SharableThings Inc. (“SharableThings” or “we” or “us”) and to any service providers collecting, using, or disclosing personal information on our behalf.

This policy describes how we handle personal information for our services on our www.sharablethings.com website and applies generally to our other websites, if any, where a link to this policy appears.

Visitors

We respect the privacy of a visitor to any of our websites who is not “logged-in” if such unregistered access is allowed (“Visitor”).

When a Visitor browses one of our websites, he or she does anonymously. We do not collect personally identifiable information unless a Visitor provides it to us.

Our web server automatically collects a limited amount of non-personal information important for the operation and security of our website. This includes Internet Protocol (IP) address, domain name, type of computer, operating system, browser type, pages viewed and content downloaded. This information is not linked to a Visitor as an individual user. Rather, it is recorded as general statistical information, which may be used by us to monitor use of the website, improve the website, and generally enable us to provide Visitors, Users, and Customers with the best possible web experience.

Users and Customers

We respect the privacy of users who are registered and logged-in (“Users”), and individuals with whom we carry on business who are registered and logged-in (“Customers”). Users and Customers are referred to as “you” in this Privacy Policy. We are committed to protecting your privacy through responsible personal information management practices to ensure compliance with the Personal Information Protection Act of the province of British Columbia, Canada, where our head office is located. These policies are similar to those in effect in the remainder of Canada and, we expect, in other jurisdictions, for the protection of your privacy.

Personal information is information about an identifiable individual, such as a name, personal email address or a personal telephone number. Business contact information, which includes name, position or title, business address, business email and business telephone and fax number, is not considered to be personal information.

This Privacy Policy outlines the principles and practices we follow in protecting your personal information. Our privacy commitment includes ensuring the accuracy, confidentiality, and security of your personal information and allows you access to and correction of your personal information.

Consent, Collection, Use & Disclosure

We collect personal information from you in order to maintain effective web services and business relationships.

We will only collect the personal information necessary to complete the stated purpose. For instance, we will collect your name and email address in order to create an online account for you and register you as a User. Having this status will generally enable you to log onto our website and advertise your sharing interests. Credit card numbers, however, would only be collected from you when required for payment purposes.

Generally, personal information is collected directly from you, however, we may also receive your personal information from a third party, such as an agent acting on your behalf, or when you have provided consent to a third party, such as a credit card service provider. We do not sell personal information that we collect to third parties.

Unless you voluntarily provide your personal information to us for an obvious purpose, we will tell you why your personal information is being collected. It will only be used for this or a consistent purpose by us or an organization working on our behalf, unless you consent to another purpose or as required by law.

Personal information that you provide voluntarily for display at our website, for example, in describing yourself or your sharing interests in a profile or sharing interest, may be collected, used, and disclosed by third parties without our knowledge or consent. Your provision of such personal information is within your control, not ours, and we urge you to be careful in providing such personal information. Third parties may use such personal information when deciding whether and where to place advertising on our website.

Consent for our collection, use, and disclosure of personal information can be given orally, in writing, or electronically. It may be implicit, as in a credit card transaction, or explicit, as when given to one of our employees or agents. You can withhold or withdraw your consent for us to use your personal information in certain ways and, if you have paid us for a service or product, we will tell you if your withholding or withdrawing your consent restricts our ability to provide that service or product. For example, if you withhold your name or email address, we will not register you as a User or open an online account for you, and you will not be able to create sharing interests or use other web services we provide to Users.

Consent to our collection, use, or disclosure of your personal information cannot be withdrawn if withdrawal would frustrate a legal obligation.

Your personal information may be collected, used or disclosed without your consent only as determined by the Personal Information Protection Act or by law. For instance, we may collect personal information from a source other than the individual, or collect, use or disclose personal information without consent of the individual, if it is clearly in the interests of the individual and consent cannot be obtained in a timely way. Your personal information may be used to respond to an emergency that may threaten your life, health or security.

We may periodically review and analyze your use of our services and products to better understand User and Customer needs and preferences and to develop, enhance, and market products and services.

Access, Correction & Retention

You may access your personal information, subject to the exceptions listed in the Personal Information Protection Act, or request a factual correction of your personal information. You may update your personal information through our web services. Otherwise, the request must be in writing, sent to us at our registered address by registered mail, and contain sufficient detail to enable us to identify you with certainty and to identify your personal information to which you request correction be made. A minimal fee may be charged for providing access to personal information and we will inform you of any applicable fee when your request is received. Generally, a response will be provided within 30 business days, however, if a longer time is needed, we will provide you with a written notice stating the reasons for the extension. Any request to us must provide an email address for you and your making the request shall be considered as good authority to us to respond to you by email.

In order to provide a personalized service, we may (but shall not be obligated to) retain the personal information you provide. When you access our web services, you will be prompted to provide an email address and username and password or sufficient personal information to confirm your on-line identity. The information you provide to us will generally be kept at least one year and will be destroyed when we think it is no longer necessary to retain the information for legal or business purposes.

Security

We have physical and technological security safeguards and procedures in place to protect your personal information from unauthorized access. Security measures include restricted access, use of user IDs and passwords, and firewalls.
