Bob's Car - Example of How SharableThings Can Work

Like most people, Bob wants things he doesn't have and has things he doesn't need all the time.

This is how Bob uses www.sharablethings.com - self-assessement and action.

1. What assets do I have?

(a) Townhouse (2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, living room, kitchen, garage);
(b) Bicycle (road racing)
(c) Big screen TV

2. What else would I like to have?

(a) Porsche Boxster
(b) House
(c) Wife
(d) Kids
(e) Minivan (in place of Porsche Boxster?)

3. How can I reduce my expenses or make money by sharing the assets I have? How much money would be involved?

(a) I could share (by renting out) half of my townhouse for approximately $1,000 a month.

(b) I could share (by renting out or exchanging for something else) my garage, unless I get that Porsche Boxster! About $40 a month income if I rented it.

4. Is there anything I want that I could afford or justify having if I shared it? How much money would be involved?

(a) I want a Porsche Boxster. The total monthly payments would be about $1,000. With two of us sharing, my cost would be $500 a month; with three of us sharing, my cost would be about $333 a month.

(b) I would be willing to share the ownership or rental of a house. I would sell my townhouse, so the net financial calculation is a bit complicated but let's say I would be willing to pay $2,000 a month towards buying or leasing a house.

5. What is my plan of action?

(a) Advertise each of the following (including by creating Sharing Interests for them on SharableThings):

(1) have townhouse to share - $1,000 a month rent for use of one-half;

(2) wanted to share Porsche Boxster - will pay up to $500 a month; willing to share with one or two others;

(3) want to share a house - willing to pay up to $2,000 a month for my share.

(4) garage for rent (if I don't get a Porsche Boxster) - $40 a month.

6. What are my goals?

Within two months to be driving a Porsche Boxster 2-4 days a week (cost: up to $500 a month), renting out half my townhouse (income: $1,000 a month), and making progress in finding a house to share: i.e., I will be $500 to the good each month until I find a house to share.

Hawaii Big Island (Kona) vacation property

This Sharing Interest was created by Admin for James before James became a SharableThings user. (For a current listing by James, from which you can send an email to him regarding this Kona Island vacation property sharing interest, see http://www.sharablethings.com/interests/40.)

We are interested in shared rental or shared ownership of a small (about 750 square feet) vacation property (condo or cottage) located in Kona (or within 5 miles of Kona) on the Big Island of Hawaii.

We would like to use this vacation property for one month (January or February) a year and are willing to pay about $2,000 USD for that month of use or to pay the same amount annually towards the purchase and mortgage.

We are ready to start immediately.

We are willing to share rental or ownership with quite a number of people. An advantage of buying or getting a long term rental is that the price is much less than for short term rental. We have rented frequently in Kona and believe that $2,000 USD a month will get us something appropriate.

We are a Vancouver couple with a very tiny dog.

The accompanying photo is apparently of a Kona condominium development where there is a 700 square foot condo unit. Just what we have in mind!
